  • If, as many of us believe, the American Revolution was fought in the hearts and minds of the people, then it ended with the unprecedented signing of the Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776. The historic signing came just two days after the Second Continental Congress had approved a resolution of separation of the American colonies from Great Britain that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.
