Booth concession stand trashed
Thieves take food, money and cash register
Police Wednesday morning were investigating a break-in at the Booth Playground concession stand in which thieves made off with a cash register, approximately a dozen cases of Gatorade, an undisclosed amount of cash earmarked for scholarships, and caused several thousand dollars worth of damage to food service equipment.
Jeff and Lisa Downs, who coordinate operations at the cinder block building for Foxboro Youth Baseball, were called to the site by local police, who discovered the break-in shortly after 5 a.m.
Both were disheartened surveying the scene.
"From April on, I spend half my life up here," Lisa Downs said of the volunteer hours she put in at the stand.
Entry appeared to have been gained by prying up an overhead metal security door covering the service window.
In addition to items reported missing, several industrial food prep units were vandalized and pre-packaged food and other debris was strewn about the interior. Beginning Wednesday night, the concession stand will be closed until further notice, according to Jeff Downs.
Car breaks
Also on Tuesday night, police were called to investigate two car breaks and what was described as an attempted housebreak at 56A Baker St. A state police K-9 unit was summoned in response to that incident.
And on Monday night, police were kept busy responding to several dozen car breaks reported in the area of Granite Street, Union Street and Fales Place. Police were still fielding reports of Monday night car breaks on Wednesday morning.
